Travel, your stay and aftercare

How long do I need to stay in Turkey after the procedure?

Plan for 3 days in Antalya for this procedure. Of that, 1 night is the hospital stay; for the rest you are at your hotel, with check-ups in between. A final check-up takes place before you fly home — you are only cleared to travel after it. Combined procedures can require a longer stay.

When can I fly after surgery?

You are cleared to fly home only after your final check-up — for this procedure typically after 3 days. Do not fly earlier, even if you feel fine: your doctor decides based on wound healing and your individual thrombosis risk. You are given guidance for the flight (moving about, fluids, and thrombosis prophylaxis or compression stockings where indicated).

When can I go back to work and exercise?

For a mainly desk-based job, expect around 5 days. Physically demanding work, sport, sauna and swimming take considerably longer and are cleared individually at your check-up. Going back to full activity too early is one of the most common reasons for a poorer result.

What happens if I have a complication after returning home?

Contact your coordinator straight away — the same person who looked after you in Antalya, by WhatsApp or phone. Send photos of the area; the assessment is made together with the doctor who operated on you. We then work out whether it can be treated where you live — we provide your surgical records and medical reports for that — or whether coming back to Antalya makes sense. For acute symptoms such as severe pain, fever, breathlessness or sudden swelling, go to your nearest emergency department first and tell us afterwards.

  •  Breast tissue size and excess skin are evaluated for other options.
How long should I stay in the city?

Patients coming from outside the city should stay in the city for 3 days.

Since the routine doctor check is important after the surgery, patients coming from outside the city should stay in the city for 3 days. Frequency of post-op examination can change depending on the surgical method. Also, the staying period can change depending on your surgeon’s advice

Is gynecomastia safe?

The results of gynecomastia are generally satisfactory; however, as every surgery, there are some risks of complications, such as infection, nipple necrosis, bleeding, hematoma, but they are rare possibilities, and they can be treated in the early period.

The hospital process

After the examinations and consultations, you have the surgery. It lasts between 30-90 minutes. The hospital stay is 1 day. However, it may change depending on the physician’s advice. Usually there is no bleeding and no drain. You should not move your arms in the first days. Due to anesthetic effects, dizziness and nausea may occur in the first hours, but these complaints reduce gradually in the following hours. After the surgery, you should wear a corset. Severe pain is not expected after gynecomastia; you may have some pain in the first few days, but it is reduced with painkillers in the early postoperative period.

What precautions to take after gynecomastia?
  • Wear a corset for 6-8 weeks after the surgery.
  • Since the routine doctor check is important after the surgery, patients coming from outside the city should stay in the city for 5-7 days. This period can change depending on your surgeon’s advice.
  • You can take a shower without putting water on your breasts in the first 4 days, but you can take a shower as you please at least 7 days after the surgery.

What precautions to take before gynecomastia?
  • Since smoking slows down wound healing, please stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the surgery
  • Stop taking blood thinners such as aspirin, vitamin E, etc. If you take homeopathic agents, please stop to have them as well
What type of anesthesia will I receive?

Gynecomastia is usually performed under general anesthesia, but sometimes local anesthesia can be preferred depending on the technique and surgeon’s choice

Will people be able to tell or catch I had a gynecomastia?

There would be almost unnoticeable incision scars after the surgery

If the tissue is removed, a little incision scar will be on the surgical area depending on the amount of tissue to be removed, and it will be obscure in time.
